The River Run - Terms and Conditions
Event Rules & Guidelines
The following event rules and guidelines are intended to help produce and direct a large-scale event, ensure the safety of all participants, meet local government permit requirements, and comply with applicable UK Athletics and International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) regulations for participant performance records and event liability.
All entry fees are non-refundable, and The River Run retains the right to refuse entry to anyone declaring false information on their entry form, failing to make the required payment, or not meeting the stated entry requirements.
Participation
Each entrant must have their own My Details account to enter an event.
An email address is required for all entries. All correspondence will be via email. A separate email address for each participant is preferred but not required.
Your email address will be passed to our official race photographers for the purpose of sending you a link to your official race certificate and race photos.
Each entrant is automatically signed up to The River Run newsletter with training plans and event information. Entrants can opt-out at any time by clicking unsubscribe at the bottom of our emails.
Minimum age requirements
To register for the Marathon, you must be 18 years of age or older on event day.
To register for the Half Marathon, you must be 17 years of age or older on event day.
Each participant must agree to the disclaimer and terms & conditions before participating in the event. All participants take part at their own risk and must complete a disclaimer waiving all claims against The River Run and any party acting on its behalf.
Marathon registrants must be capable of completing the full distance, start to finish, within 7 hours. The course will close at this pace.
Half Marathon registrants must be capable of completing the distance within 4 hours.
By participating, all entrants confirm that they are happy for their names and any footage or photographs taken during their participation to be used to publicise any UKTC Ltd event.
Participant race number bibs are specific personal identifiers and cannot be exchanged, transferred, or sold. Official transfers can only be made via the official website within the transfer deadline. Unauthorised sale or transfer of race entries/bibs is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification and/or a ban from future events.
All participants must provide their full name and details of any health problems or medication in their My Details account upon entry.
All entry fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred toward future events.
Registration closure is determined and announced when event participation reaches capacity. No postal entries are accepted.
Event Day
Participants must follow instructions given by all event officials, including race staff, volunteers, medical personnel, security officers, and city officials, throughout the event.
All participants are expected to behave professionally and courteously. Urinating or defecating on or near the course is strictly prohibited except in designated toilet facilities. Anyone violating this rule will be disqualified and asked to leave the course.
Each participant will be provided with a race bib, which must be worn visibly on the front throughout the event.
No participant will be allowed to participate without their bib number.
Unauthorised devices such as baby joggers, skateboards, bicycles, rollerblades, and other wheeled devices are not allowed on the course.
Participants agree that personal information (including medical details) entered during registration or collected by event medical staff can be stored, used, and disclosed by UKTC Ltd for event organisation, promotion, administration, and statistical compilation.
The Start
Participants will be assigned to their zones based on which events they will be taking part in.
Participants must assemble in their assigned starting zones no less than 15 minutes prior to the race start. Those attempting to enter the wrong pen will be required to start after all other participants.
Participants must begin the event during the official start times, positioned behind the start line.
Course Monitoring
Participants who refuse to follow directions from event officials, city officials, or course marshals, behave unsportsmanlike, or use offensive language may be disqualified and banned from future UTKC Ltd events.
Any participant found to have gained an unfair advantage by intentionally shortening the course ("cutting the course") will be disqualified.
Unregistered participants or those using a bib or timing device not officially assigned to them will be removed and disqualified from future events.
No unauthorised persons are allowed on the course. Only registered participants may participate, and no participant may receive assistance without permission from event management.
A hands-on medical examination during the event by official medical personnel does not count as assistance and will not lead to disqualification if the participant is deemed medically fit. Participants who receive medical treatment must authorise the sharing of this information with the medical director of The River Run.
Participant Safety
Wheeled devices are limited to authorised course marshals on bicycles.
This event is not wheelchair accessible.
The River Run is governed by UK Athletics rules.
Headphones Policy
Marathon & Half Marathon: Runners may wear headphones at their own risk but should be mindful of other participants and emergency services.
Result Timing
All participants will be assigned a disposable chip timing device. Official times will be based on gun time (start to finish). Chip time (start line to finish line) will be recorded for mass participants. Participants must wear their timing devices throughout the event. Missing checkpoint times may result in disqualification.
Merchandise Returns Policy
Merchandise can be returned within 15 days for exchange or refund if unused and with original tags. Worn or laundered items will not be accepted unless faulty. Postage is non-refundable, and return postage is covered by the customer.
